USC positioned to add two more to '12 class

USC is expected to pick up a commitment Saturday from DE Jhaustin Thomas (6-6 240) of Decatur, GA. Thomas had narrowed his choices to the Gamecocks and Auburn. He also had strong interest in Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. Thomas had 14 sacks as a junior.
The Gamecocks also have a conditional commitment from RB Virgil Smalls (5-11 270) of Goose Creek. “He’s going to USC,” Goose Creek coach Chuck Reedy said Friday night. “They have offered and he has committed pending him qualifying. If he qualifies and they don’t have room, he’ll greyshirt.” Smalls is the brother of USC freshman offensive tackle Brandon Shell. He has scored 14 touchdowns this season. Last season he rushed for 1300 yards with 25 touchdowns. And he delivered 86 pancake blocks. “He’s physical, “ Reedy said. “He’s intimidating.” These additions would give the Gamecocks 23 players in the class including three they placed in prep school.
