USC Freshman Defensive Back Announces Transfer

Per 107.5 The Game, freshman Defensive Back Martay Mattox has decided to transfer from South Carolina. Mattox enrolled early at USC in January 2011 after graduating from Clarke Central HS in Athens, GA. Mattox was listed as a backup cornerback on the Gamecocks roster and participated mostly on Special Teams without recording a tackle this season.

Mattox has not announced where he will continue his playing career.
There will likely be more attrition within the football program, as the Gamecocks are very tight on scholarship numbers with Signing Day 2012 looming in less than two months.

Mattox is the second USC football player to announce a transfer within the past two days. Earlier this week, redshirt sophomore defensive back Corey Addison “tweeted” that he would be leaving Carolina to pursue more playing time elsewhere. Addison recorded three tackles this past season.
